Breath of Hieroglyphs
This book reinterprets the cultural and visual heritage of hieroglyphs from a modern perspective, serving as a bridge between the past and the present. It is designed with bilingual typesetting in Korean and English, featuring a unique flip structure where the two languages meet at the middle of the book, flipping vertically. I have compiled images of hieroglyphs spanning from the Maya civilization to the present day. Inspired by Aby Warburg’s Image Atlas, the focus is on connecting the past and present, presenting only the 100 plates and their corresponding descriptions.

Two versions of a book are designed with the same content. The first edition features a marbling image related to the content, printed on PVC for the cover, and it is bound using the perfect binding (glue binding) method. The second book is inspired by Maya glyph blocks and stele. Embossing was applied using letterpress on paper, which was then attached to a bound book for completion. The cover emphasizes minimalism, while the reverse side (full title page) features marbling patterns created with screen printing, offering a striking contrast in design.
